Spanish Classes in Ecuador
One of the most important things you can do to help yourself settle quickly in your new country is to learn the language. If possible, you might want to start with Spanish-language classes before moving just to give you a head start.
Once you arrive in Ecuador, you'll find that there are many options to learning Spanish. Private lessons with Ecuadorians or North Americans are available for usually about $10 an hour. Classes can be private, semi-private (two people), or full class which is usually fairly small.
Larger cities such as Quito, Cuenca, and Guayaquil have many language schools while smaller centers such as Salinas and Cotacachi rely mainly on entrepreneurial individuals teaching the language.
The advantage of choosing Ecuadorian teachers is that they will help you learn Ecuadorian Spanish (yes, it is a bit different than other Latin-American countries' Spanish) as well as the local accent.
For such a small country, it's surprising to hear such different pronunciations in Quito (mountains), Cuenca (southern mountains), Guayaquil (city), and the fishermen's Spanish on the coast. Some teachers combine in-class lessons with visits to the market and other locations of interest to newcomers.
Something new learners of a language soon realize is that studying an idiom is so much more than learning a bunch of words. We also learn the culture of the people, how they think, why certain things are so important to them, as well as the history, music, arts, and the importance of religion in their daily lives.
Learning the language will not only help you feel at home so much quicker as you manage your errands yourself but you'll also grow to love the people and culture.
