Why Salinas - Ecuador?

While many people thinking of moving to Ecuador consider their choices in location to be beach or mountain, in Salinas we choose between beach or city.

WHY SALINAS, ECUADOR?

Why are so many North Americans moving to Ecuador and, more specifically, to Salinas? Most expatriates, when asked, will mention the great beach lifestyle, the low crime rate, very friendly residents, great expat support by other foreigners, and a very affordable cost of living.

While these things may bring people here, what keeps them in our little corner of paradise is the ability to connect with other people from the expat and local communities. Opportunities abound to get involved with community service programs that transcend both groups. These include saving street dogs and cats; raising money for school supplies for poorer families; and teaching art to kids and their parents. In Salinas, lifestyle and community come together.

LOCATION, LOCATION, LOCATION: BEACH OR THE CITY

Salinas Ecuador BeachWhile many people thinking of moving to Ecuador consider their choices in location to be beach or mountain, in Salinas we choose between beach or city. Beach-front condos provide amazing views of the Pacific Ocean, modern amenities, and a thriving community of American and Canadian expats. Soft white sand, fishermen bringing in their daily catch, and a weekly expat beach party are just a few feet away for residents of the Malecon (the Boardwalk).

Others prefer the lifestyle of living near the markets, the shops, and local community activities. Homes are well-priced and can be either condos or houses. Many feature large yards, gardens and swimming pools. The greatest advantage is getting to know your Ecuadorian neighbors and learning more about the language and culture.

Either way, in Salinas, the beach and the city aren’t far from each other. The two are just a $2 to $3 taxi ride or a 15 to 30 cents bus ride from each other.

RICHNESS IN CULTURE

Ecuador has garnered the attention of many retirees in the past decade as many have come to realize that their retirement income isn’t sufficient to live in their home countries. But there is far more to offer in the South Salinas Ecuador FoodAmerican country than $3.00 almuerzos (lunches), $500 monthly rents, and $150,000 beach-front condos.

The low cost of living provides residents with the luxury of using their hard-earned retirement earnings for pleasurable activities such as traveling around the country, whale watching on a sail boat, eating out more often, and attending local cultural performances.

There are many economic refugees in Ecuador and, even though what might have brought them here to begin with was the low cost of living, most have found that the richness of the country goes far beyond that measured by money.
